stem cell research?

just read an article on stem research to create  a new heart valve, now the united states will have to go to foreign countries for new scientific research.  Now instead of the us leading the world with new scientific research, U.S. will be following the world!

Re: Stem Cell research…The US doesn’t seem to have a pressing concern for Stem Cell research at this time. If there is widespread interest within the country, then will US take a leading role in the research of Stem Cells. Perhaps US researchers are waiting to see the outcome of new research methods before they jump on the bandwagon.

I’ve always been interested in stemcell research and I know a lot of controversy surrounds the subject. Aside from the religious arguments, I believe that the stemcells would be coming from parts of the body (not fetuses) and that someday they’ll be able to recreate organs/new parts for the body of sick or aging people (that might be us int the future…) and extend life expectancy.
The question is: do we want to have people live until 200 years’old? Can the planet/the societies sustain such a large number of people?
My answer is yes with the proper technology and social progress.
