after reading our assignment this week, i wondered if there really are any new  ideas.  even the example of correct way to write a new assignment looked like just another way to paraphase the work with the author cited.  Is it really a new idea.  why is this not plagarism?

The rise of industry, the growth of cities, and the expansion of the population were the three great developments of late nineteenth century American history. As new, larger, steam-powered factories became a feature of the American landscape in the East, they transformed farm hands into industrial laborers, and provided jobs for a rising tide of immigrants. With industry came urbanization the growth of large cities (like Fall River, Massachusetts, where the Bordens lived) which became the centers of production as well as of commerce and trade.

Fall River, where the Borden family lived, was typical of northeastern industrial cities of the nineteenth century. Steam-powered production had shifted labor from agriculture to manufacturing, and as immigrants arrived in the US, they found work in these new factories. As a result, populations grew, and large urban areas arose. Fall River was one of these manufacturing and commercial centers (Williams 1).

I understand the explanation of why they say this is ok, i do not know if i agree with it.. It is not an orgingall idea, just reworded.?

 he brings up a good point ,about education.  what can students use or not use, and how will they know.. kids today live on the computer.  teachers are more worried about  plagiarism or did the student really do the work than to worry about copywrite laws.

at least there are some politicans that believe in free internet.  maybe we need to remind congress of how the has  internet got started and how it florished with open access..

After watching the video,  Professor Lessig, kept saying “what have you’ve done about it.”  I went to cc.org website , eff  website, wrote to my congressman and senators over copywrite laws.  I went to Professor Lessig’s  blog site, to find the different projects he is involved with.  Having a site for the authors to authorize use of their material and what they would like to keep confidential is an intelligent way to handle copywrite laws problem. He has traveled extensively to prompt his software.  the creative commons web site their goal is to produce a more effective high tech economy through the internet. They strongly believe in copyright and the purposes of it including making available for others to use and modify within the scope of how the creator allows it to be changed and used. They believe it is important to protect the rights of the creators however still help others in using copyrighted material. The creative commons web site is used for the authors of works to post their work and share it with others. The site also gives people a easier way to license their work and protect it under copyright law.   put the ownership in the creators hands not big companies

The other important topic  that i was researching was the orphan bill law.  Orphan material is material that you can not find who the author is.   Professor Lessig points out some major flaws of the bill that has been proposed, especially just limiting the information to US

so this technology is now easy and cheap..  I do believe any one can see what you are doing on the computer.  I think if you are blogging at work, you have to be really careful about properity information.  Maybe this is why computer communication will really never replace voice communication,  everything is recorded.  can you really every express what you are thinking.  I am doing nothing illegal, but i always feel a little parnoid on the web.

now i saw a commerical advertising an internet site!!.  The new channels are big with hyperlinks to all there stories and good way to have organized information.  That is one trouble I run into on the web, i will read a story and can not remember where i read it. I wanted to post the story on how Yahoo has changed how they grab infomation when you search, but could not find it again.  my only way now is to make it my favorite or on aol tool bar.    I have to learn how to save and create folders for the important information i would like to go back to.
